Adirondack
Altai Assistance Project: Sharing information and approaches
to natural area protection and meeting the needs of local residents on
opposite sides, but in similar areas, of the world. Recently, ASCI
sponsored a reception for the Altai Assistance Project in November 2006.
The gathering attracted press representatives, the Lake Placid Mayor,
numerous Adirondackers who have visited the Altai region of
Russia
, and other residents interested in community development and
environment to meet with two visiting directors of major parks in the
Altai.

Adirondack Energy
Independence
: Forging a collective effort to become energy self-reliant
through renewable energy, indigenous sources, innovation and
conservation by the year 2020. ASCI was an early participant in
the Energy $mart Park Initiative and has taken a leading role in
advancing it. ASCI's commitment to promoting sustainable development in
Park communities and enabling community action includes a strong focus
on sustainable energy, including the ESPI. As energy is a critical
component of modern economic development and
Adirondack
residents' quality of life, ASCI sees this field as inextricably tied to
improving local community options and also to conservation of natural
resources. In addition, global warming may affect the local
economy and local ecosystem functions in a variety of ways that detract
from predictable income streams; ASCI is committed to enhancing
understanding of these impacts in the context of planning for local
municipalities. The ASCI Sustainable Energy Program will examine
broad energy issues in the context of the
Adirondack
Park
as viewed from a mountain community perspective. |
