Community
Waterfront Revitalization Program (CWRP) for the Town of
Wilmington
A volunteer Citizens’ Committee is meeting to complete
a Community Waterfront Revitalization Program for Wilmington. They will, with your input,
help develop a plan to restore and enhance use of our stretch of the
AuSable
River, including
Lake
Everest.
Please
answer this short survey so we can get everybody’s thoughts on what should
be done with the river and lake in
Wilmington
.
1.
What do you value most about the
AuSable
River
in
Wilmington
? (Choose up to two.)

One big concern to be examined in the CWRP is the
sedimentation gathering in the
Lake
Everest
basin. We have studied this a bit
and know that some of this is natural (the river is called AuSable – or “
Sand
River
” in French, after all….), and some is enhanced by human processes
upstream from the dam, and some happens in any place with a dam.
Some of our questions this time focus on that issue.
2.
Do you think the river should be dredged to its original depth,
or as near to it as we can get, if we can work with local and regional
agencies to do so?
YES
NO
WHY?
WHAT IF THERE ARE NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS?

3.
Do you think the river should be allowed to continue silting up
at the rate it’s going, eventually turning into a marsh?
YES
NO
WHY?

there other issues and interests you have about the waterfront in

Thanks! We
encourage everybody to answer this survey, young and old alike.
Our children’s views on this issue matter.
Committee members and Town leaders will use the final plan to raise
grant money to implement the projects you help identify.
Once
Wilmington
has this plan in place, in about a year, it will be much easier for us to
apply for grants. We hope to
complete some of the highest priority projects within about five years.
Additional copies of the CWRP survey can be picked up at
the Library, Town Hall,
Youth
Center
, and Visitor’s Bureau. A
new set of questions will be available in the same locations later this
spring, so look for them! Forms
may be dropped at any of these places or mailed to:
There
will be an all-Community Meeting about the CWRP on
January 31, 2006
in the Town Hall at
6 pm
. The Committee meets
there monthly, on the third Tuesday, at
6:30 pm
, and all are welcome to attend.
